Banshees Match Reports 2005

vs. South Jersey (Scrimmage)   3/06/05

Poplar Park, March 6th, 2005: The Hibernian Banshee's host the South Jersey High School Girls at 1:30 pm. The field was snow covered with a nice puddling effect on top of frozen mud. Not quite perfect rugby conditions but we'll take it for the first week in March. The final score for three 20-minute periods was the Banshee's 0 and South Jersey 15. We played them with 15 Banshees and three guests and we played them extremely well. The game was a live Rugby match with very little help from the coaches. We were actually on the field to help with positioning but that was about it.

The SJ girls controlled the first period from a positional point of view but were defended very well from the Banshee's. Flanker Candice Luby, our Player of the Match was unmatched in her play on both sides of the ball. She made several big tackles throughout the match. Midway through the first half SJ scored down the sideline, 0-5. The period ended at 0-5.

The second half had the Banshee's play the entire 20-minute period in the SJ end but could not score. Reggie Piralli and Becky Warrington had a few chances each at converting for points but were stopped at or near the goal line. Flyhalf Obert-Thorn had some chances as well. The backfield moved the ball through their hands well and the centers Lisa Rake and Lauren Aaron played nicely. Captain Lyndsey Kanter had several nice runs and just as many big stops. Patty Miller and Kate Dixon were clicking nicely and won many of our lineouts and even stole two of theirs, nice work girls. Natalie, Bonnie and Kate Ashmore all played extremely well all around the field. The period ended with no score, 0-5.

The third half we had Rachel, Sydney and Jen play for us and they contributed right away. Scrumhalf Lauren Vainberg had a great game for us and boy did she look cold. Our wings Jessica Kruscavage and Kate Reedman both did a wonderful job out there and were able to move the ball ahead and stop them when they were threatened. The SJ scored two tries in this period and the match ended 0-15.

This was a good match for our girls. You now know what a game is like. It only gets better! We ALL must be at training this Tuesday and Thursday. We will build on this match and we go only up from here. I am very proud of you girls...With you, Murph.

vs. Haverford   4/03/05

Haverford , PA. Hibernian Banshee's vs. Haverford Girls: The Banshee's played a highly ranked Haverford girls team in the rain and mud and finished the match with a score of 0-46. Don't even for a minute let that score upset or bother you. You all played extremely hard and well. We played over half of the match without Lyndsey Kanter . She was a real leader out there, challenging them almost always by herself. Banshee Rugby was a fast hitting type of game. We were courageous in defense and a bit sporadic in attack. The backs moved the ball nicely, though. Our forwards were not always around to support like they can. Maybe it was just too nasty out. The side:

Team: Jen Potoczny, Lauren Vainberg, Bonnie Humphreys, Brittany, Natalie Long, Lyndsey Kanter, Jill Herion, Becky Warrington, Kelly McClendon, Liz Obert-Thorn, Jessica Kruscavage,  Lisa Rake, Lauren Aaron, Jen Reedman, Lyndsey, Melissa Norelli

Player of the Match Honors go to Jill Herion

Her relentless pressure was something to behold. Plus, she got out of bed to come and play with us.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Reedman's and the Constantini's and the coaches, parents and players who put together the "with you, Murphia" patches on our Jerseys . I have never been more humbled by the outpouring of support you all have shown me and my family through these difficult times. We ARE family. I love you all, with you, Murph.
BE AT PRACTICE: Tues./Thurs. 4 to 6. We are home this Sunday
