Banshees Match Reports 2009
vs. South Jersey 3/22/09
The Banshee's started their 2009 League season with
a 49-0 over hosts South Jersey Girls. Fullback Amanda Kieffer led the way with
five tries. The girls seemed very relaxed and loose before the game. I was a
little nervous.
The game started with us kicking to SJ. They lost possession and in the first
minute Amanda ran in a try,5-0. The match settled a bit after that although the
banshee's spent most of the next 12 minutes in SJ's half. The 14th minute wing
Kelly Gilbert had a great run down the side line and touched down what would
have been a try, however the field was miss marked and she was not awarded. Two
minutes later from a SJ penalty Amanda tapped and ran in a try near the posts,
10-0. At the 21st minute from a stolen SJ scrum Sammi fed Jacki to Dyana to
Julianne who hit Amanda who then raced in her third, 15-0. The forwards were
playing well enough to give us some ball to run with, although the commitment to
the breakdowns could have been better, (lower body position). The 33rd minute
from a Banshee scrum Sam fed her back line nicely and Jacki passed to her
centers who gave it to Amanda who forced her way in for her forth in a row,
20-0. I think SJ was getting sick of this by now. The 34th minute from a won
Banshee ruck Dyana ran a try right near the goal posts for an unconverted try,
25-0. The first four conversions were missed and Kelly came very close to making
this one. The half ended.
The second half started with SJ giving good defensive pressure. Our captain
Jacki made some nice decisions to keep SJ off balance. There were a few SJ girls
injured at the first and seventh minutes of the half. The 47th minute Jacki made
a very nice run and scored a try, 30-0. For the next 10 minutes SJ had some good
runs but the Banshee defense kept SJ from scoring. Nice strong runs from Lauren
Hicks and Shauna Kuepper. The 58th minute a nice defensive play from scrumhalf
Sammi Reed led to Amanda scoring her final try of the match, 35-0. The 60th
minute from a SJ kick Amanda made a great pass to Sommer who put Avery Wunder
away for her first try. Avery flew down the field and scored under the posts,
Kelly converted, 42-0. The 62nd minute wing Devon Skinner scooped up the ball
and ran down the field toward the try line. She would have gotten there except
the piano on her back was too heavy, (stolen from the men's match report). Sammi
made good use of picking the ball up and running with it at the base of the
break down several times as well as Sommer being able to do the same. The 70th
minute Sommer did just that and had a terrific run and fed a supporting Sammi
who flew in for the final try of the day which Kelly converted, 49-0.
We were treated to a very nice lunch from the South Jersey parents and we headed
home.
Girls, do not get too excited about the outcome of this match. Put it far behind
you as it is over. We must look ahead to North Penn at home this weekend. Our
work at rucking was not that good and our tackling could have been better. One
word...commitment.
Scoring: Kieffer 5T, Sacco 1T, Henry 1T, Wunder 1T, Reed 1T, Gilbert 2C.

vs. North Penn 3/29/09
The Banshee's
hosted the North Penn Girls today and came away with a 15-5 victory in front of
a very nice crowd of parents, supporters and the Bull's. They had a match
against Blackthorn following us.
The scoring all happened in the first half. Amanda Kieffer scored two tries and
Jacki Sacco scored one. All of our conversions were missed. North Penn scored
one try , unconverted at 26 minutes. The second half was played scoreless. Many
opportunities were had by both sides for points and yet none were scored. The
match finished with North Penn trying to get one but the Banshee's did not
yield.
The second side was also won by the Banshee's. I will get the results and post
them soon.
The day turned out well for us. 'nuff said. This match is now over and we must
start preparing for Blackthorn.
I am SO proud of you girls. You all played well. However, we can improve. Please
make training attendance a priority.

vs.
Blackthorn 4/05/09
April 5, 2009.
Poplar Park, the Hibernian Banshee's vs. Blackthorn in their third league match
of the season. The Banshee's took the field in a relaxed state against a very
strong Blackthorn side and came out with a 32-5 win. Half time score was 20-5.
The Blackthorn girls were not the same group in our scrimmage four weeks ago.
They were organized and quite strong. The Banshee's were the same team from the
scrimmage four weeks ago. Banshee Rugby was relentless in attack and unyielding
in their defense. From the opening kickoff to the final whistle the girls were
playing very tough.
We kicked off to BT and immediately fullback Amanda Kieffer leveled the girl who
received the kick. The 3 minute mark from a BT penalty near their goal line
Lauren Hicks tapped to herself and rushed the goal line setting up a ruck that
saw several girls fighting for possession and Sommer touched down near the
corner for an unconverted try, 5-0. The BT girls came right back trying to score
, stopped by Banshee's and Sam Rohn gave a nice clearing kick getting us out of
trouble. At 8 minutes from near our goal line, flanker Avery Wunder scooped up
the ball and flew down the side line for a 90 yard try, unconverted, 10-0. The
19 minute mark from a stolen BT scrum Marino fed Amanda Kieffer who barreled her
way in for our third try of the game, 15-0. All the while, the Banshee's were
playing very spirited rugby, not allowing BT very much room. And Bt was trying.
24 minutes from another stolen BT scrum #8 Sommer grabbed the ball feeding
Marino who passed beautifully to center Dyana Henry who zoomed in for the try,
20-0. At 27 minutes a BT player made it in to the try line but was held up in
goal for no try, great defense!. BT was given a scrum and they rumbled in for
their only points of the day, 20-5. At the 33rd minute Amanda got a ball to run
with and took off for the side line, turned the corner and was gone, however
their speedy wing caught her just before the goal line. Wow! Half.
The second half had us receiving the kick and a big play started with Avery to
Jacki to Amanda who was stopped just before scoring again. Beautiful play from
forwards Nicole Jones, Shauna Kuepper, Devon Skinner and Lauren Hicks. These
girls made nice stops throughout the match. Jones had some nice offensive pop
out there as well, good stuff. The 46th minute flyhalf Jacki Sacco made a great
run feeding Amanda very nicely who ran in her second try of the day, 25-5.
Banshee's were hitting really hard and at the 53rd minute a BT needed two
minutes to get herself together from a big hit. The game leveled off for the
next 10 minutes with both sides running at each other hard. BT could not crack
the defense and the Banshee's were playing smart, safe rugby with a four try
lead. The last minute of play from our scrum Sommer picked from the base of the
scrum and raced to the goal line feeding Avery who scored under the posts for a
converted try (Rohn), 32-5.
Notes: Great ball management. Strong scrummaging, we drove them back many times
(27 scrums). Equal in line outs. We lost more rucks and won more mauls. We don't
even practice the maul. We were just very aggressive (Shuana). Penalties- 13
against and only two for us. That can be troubling. Marino played well at
scrumhalf and Alyssa and Kelli stepped in and did a good job.
Scoring: Kieffer 2T, Wunder 2T, Heffelfinger 1T, Henry 1T, Rohn 1C.
The second side was
won by the Banshee's 7-0. Kieffer scored the try and Gilbert converted. Macy
Bright and Sarah Klimowicz played well in this match.
