vs. Blackthorn   3/25/07

No. I will admit that I am so lazy. The Banshee's first scrimmage against Media resulted in a no match, they didn't show up. The following week we were to play South Jersey but the game was cancelled due to bad weather. Last week the 25th of March the Banshee's hosted the Blackthorn girls and won by a score of 15-0. The first try was scored by Jacki Sacco from a nice set-up from Rachel R. The conversion was no good. The half ended at 5-0. The second half reserve Nicole Marino scored two unconverted tries from in close and the match ended at 15-0.

What a great Rugby game to watch The girls really played hard against a strong Blackthorn side.
Much thanks to Uncle Dave and Frank and Kate M. for helping to set the field up and everything. A very big thank you to the parents who made us the food and drinks.
You guys are the best!

vs. Archbishop Ryan   4/01/07

Sunday, April 1st,2007 the Banshee's hosted the Archbishop Ryan Ragdolls at Poplar Park in the first of two league matches. The second was the Bull's against Blackthorn.
On a day that was made for rugby the Banshee's won over A. Ryan 37-0. The game was two 30 minute halves and the halftime score was 17-0.
This team played extremely well together and was an absolute joy to watch. The Banshee's played well with the ball in their hands and used some strong clearing kicks when needed.
The set plays were executed very well with the Banshee's winning 8 lineouts and losing just 3. Scrums were equally strong by winning 10 and losing 3.
But the best part of the game to watch for me was how well you played in the loose. Rucks were won 11-1 and mauls were won 8-2. Whenever someone was needed to be there someone always was or so it seemed. Ryan seemed like they were under constant pressure. Ryan started the second half with a whole new group of forwards to try and give their team a spark. That didn't last all that long. They were a spirited bunch of girls and never gave up. They came with 35 players and were ready to play. As was the 17 Banshee's.
The game:
The 8th minute we stole their lineout and passed the ball to Reggie who scored under the posts, Reggie missed the conversion; 5-0. In the 17th minute after some real good movement The ball went to lock Kate Reedman who scored near the goalposts and Reggie made the con. 12-0. The Ryan girls started to put some pressure on us and Reggie Perolli made a great clearing kick and stopped them. In the 23rd minute again we stole their lineout and the ball went from Kate Marseglia to Kate Reedman to Amanda Angellella to Reggie Perolli who scored her second try near the posts. The conversion was missed. 17-0. Some more good clearing kicks to preserve our lead by Reggie as the half wound down. At this 28th minute we were awarded a penalty kick that was misses and the half ended at 17-0.
The second half we kept the same intensity and at the 36th minute from our scrum Sam Keller took off on a great run and passed to a flying Caitlin Donahue who scored a try. Con. missed, 22-0. In the 49th minute they had a penalty play go all the way to our goal line. We stopped Ryan and the ball went to Kate Reedman who made a beautiful clearing kick to get us out of trouble. In the 41st minute Reggie made a great high clearing kick in the middle of the field, the ball took a high bounce right into Jacki Sacco's hands who split two defenders and raced in for the try. Con. missed 27-0. The 44th minute had these same two Reggie and Jacki run and pass all the way to Ryan's goal line but just short of a try for Jacki. In the 45th minute from our scrum with great pressure Kate Marseglia got the ball passed to Reggie who passed to Caitlin Donahue for her second try of the day, con. missed 32-0. The 52nd minute we were putting on tremendous pressure and Caitlin Donahue had a great run and hit a flying Reggie Perolli for the final score, con. missed and the final score 37-0.
Great stuff from this team today, Jill MacMath had some great runs, as did Samm Keller and Naavah Wood. What a day!

The Banshee's played a 20 minute session to let all of the Ryan girls have a game and that score ended with the Banshee's up 12-0. The first score came from a great run from Reggie to Kelly McClendon who put Jacki Sacco in for the try. Caitlin missed the conversion, 5-0. The last try of the day was scored by Reggie after 10 different Banshee's passed the ball to each other in great rugby form, BRILIANT!
Caitlin made the conversion, whew!
See you all at training...Murph.

vs. Conestoga   4/15/07

Banshee's match report, Sunday, April 15, 2007
Banshee's vs. Conestoga at home: 12:00
The Banshee's hosted Conestoga during the great Nor'easter of 2007. The Conestoga girls arrived in an ark to play our Banshee's at Poplar Park and took a 0-31 win home with them, halftime 0-12.
Despite some great rugby by our girls we were unable to put points on the board and were also unable to keep our opponents from scoring.
I must say, I 've always respected the way you girls have played and I don't know how you guys battled it out today!
The conditions were raw and it took me four hours to dry out and I didn't play!
You all should feel VERY VERY proud of yourselves. You all won just by going out there and playing as hard as you did. We are all so proud of you!
The side:

Jill went out at halftime and was replaced by a Conestoge player. Reggie insisted that a banged up Shauna come out at 50 min and was replaced by our own banged up Kate Marseglia.

Players of the Match: Kuepper, Marseglia, Pirolli, Donahue, Herion, Wood, Sacco, Reedman, MacMath, McClendon, Keller, Aaron, Angellella, Reed, Punyko, Heffelfinger.
