The Hibernian Women's Rugby team, the Harps, officially completed their first
match. On May 8th a very eclectic group of Lower Bucks women mostly former
Hibernian High School Banshee players took on a very experienced Philly B-side.
The club was lead by captain Amanda Packer and vice-captain Sommer
Heffelfinger. They were able to pull girls from the local area and six
different colleges. The match was played in Edgely Park across from Boathouse
Row. The pitch has a slight down hill angle and the wind was gusty and
strong at times. Conditioning played a large part in the game. The youth
of the team and having to go up hill for the first half didn't help. The
Harps played the entire game with heart and played each minute to score. In
the second half the forwards drove the ball several times down to the
five meter line only to see it go the other way on break always from Philly's
outside center and wings. The high point of the Harps game came from a break
away 20 meters out by Sammi Reed. Overall the girls kept the ball moving
out to the back line and drove the ball consistently throughout the
match. The set scrums need work but we won more than our fair share of line
outs. The score doesn't reflect the hard play from the team. With that kind
of heart and solid practices as a team the Harps have a bright future
ahead of them. Some notable game notes: Player of the match went to
Sammi. I like to mention Christina Harrison for stepping on the field and
completing her first game. If I missed any other first time players I
would like to say great job. A special Thank You to the college players from
West Chester, Temple, Penn State, St. Joes, Kutztown, and Babson.
